We are pleased to formally announce that EMINERALS has been appointed as the international representative of Briquetera de Venezuela (Briqven), a key corporation in the Venezuelan steel industry. Briqven is dedicated to the production and trading of Hot Briquetted Iron (HBC), an essential product for steelmaking. Located in the strategic Matanzas Industrial Zone in Ciudad Guayana, the company benefits from access to vital resources such as high-purity iron ore, natural gas, and direct river access for export, positioning itself as a key player with a clear value proposition: to be a "Sustainable Solution for Tomorrow's Green Steel.".

Briqven's operation is based on advanced HYL III Direct Reduction technology, a process that transforms iron ore pellets into a superior chemical quality product, with an expected Total Iron content of 95%.This system, which includes a catalytic reformer and a CO2 absorption circuit, underscores the company's commitment to sustainability and minimizing environmental impact. Through this alliance, EMINERALS becomes the bridge between Briqven's robust production potential and the demand of the global steel industry, ensuring supply for sectors such as metalworking, construction, and automotive., based on a growth plan projected to exceed one million tons per year.

Positioning and Context of

the Steel Market

  • Value Proposition: Briqven presents itself as a "Sustainable Solution for Tomorrow's Green Steel", focused on the potential of the briquette industry in Venezuela.
  • Iron Reserves: Venezuela has total reserves of 14 billion metric tons of iron ore. Globally, confirmed reserves in 2022 were 800 billion metric tons.
  • Global Industry: More than 6 million people work in the steel industry worldwide, and iron in the form of steel is used 20 times more than all other metals combined.

Production Process and

Value Chain

  • Strategic Location: The plant is located in the Matanzas Industrial Zone of Ciudad Guayana, Bolívar state, Venezuela.
  • Integrated Iron-Steel Chain: The process is an integrated cycle consisting of seven stages: mining, processing, pelletizing, reduction, briquetting, liquid steel production and final product.
  • Key Resources: The operation has essential inputs such as iron ore, methane gas, electricity, water and river access for logistics.

HYL III

Direct Reduction Technology

  • General Description: Briqven uses HYL III Direct Reduction technology. This technology is used in various plants worldwide, including countries such as Mexico, India, Iran, and Russia.
  • Technical Process: The core of the process is a moving bed reactor with an external reformer. Natural gas is reformed with high-temperature steam to produce H2 and CO, which are used to remove oxygen (O2) from iron ore (FE).The product of this process is Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), also known as "Sponge Iron".
  • Compaction: The HRD is then compacted to create "Briquettes" (HBC), which makes it easier to handle and transport.

Quality AND

Product Specifications

  • Raw Material (Pellets): Pellets with an iron (Fe) content of 66.2% are used, a size of 10-12.5 mm and a low proportion of impurities (gangue), especially silica.
  • Final Product (Briquettes):
    • Chemicals: A Total Fe content of 95% (minimum 89%) is expected, a Metallic Fe Degree of 88% (minimum 83%) and a Carbon (C) content of up to 2% (minimum 0.90%).
    • Physics: The standard briquette size is 102×51×25.4 mm, with 97.8% of the product being larger than 6.35 mm.
